It looks brand new, came with a handy carrying case and works great. Finally I did a Web search and was surprised when I found out I could buy a factory reconditioned Milwaukee hammer drill for a few dollars more than the ones at Lowe's and Home Depot. Over the years I had tried many brands of masonry drill bits in my 3/8" drill, but, regardless of how much I paid for the bits, they were very often ruined when I hit a piece aggregate. I knew I needed a hammer drill, but since I would only use it occasionally, I never bought one. Near as I can tell, I paid about 1/3 of the current list price for the drill.
There is a very small bit of surface rust on the chuck. Much to my surprise, CPO Milwaukee shipped the tool by FEDEX and it arrived on Saturday, 2 days after I placed the order.I'm very happy with this tool and the service from Amazon and CPO Milwaukee. There are a few very small scuffs on the plastic that are not noticeable unless you look very closely, under a strong light. All parts were in the box and are in new condition.
I drilled some test holes in wood without the hammer and in concrete block with the hammer. The first actual job I did with the tool was to drill a dozen holes through floor tile and into a concrete floor to anchor a 2 x 4 with Tapcons. I also appreciate well-built tools and will spend a bit more to get a tool that feels solid and not likely to fail after a few hours. The hammer drill functioned flawlessly. I was a little worried about some of the comments reviewers made about the condition of reconditioned tools they received, but decided to take a chance. The hammer drill arrived and I carefully inspected it and drilled some test holes to check out its functionality. I use my tools a lot, but I don't use them for a living.
After considering a number of different hammer drills I chose the Milwaukee 5380-81 9 for its keyed chuck, power and positive reviews. Cosmetically, the tool is 'near new'. The tool feels very powerful and well built and everything functions perfectly. I chose the free shipping and didn't expect to see the tool for 7 - 10 days. I would put myself in the 'active homeowner' category in terms of my tool usage. I decided to buy a reconditioned tool because of the substantial savings.
In addition to the hammer drill, the kit included a new carrying case, detachable side handle, depth stop and chuck key.
Reconditioned product looks brand new, has plenty of power and feels extremely solid. I'm very happy with my choice of purchase. Like any other Milwaukee tool I am sure I will be useing it for years to come.
Judging from other comments there's a real problem with the folks who re-package these for sale. So it's a bargain, but not restored to new condition as advertised. For a hundred bucks this drill is a thing of wonder. But one third of the teeth on the chuck key supplied are broken making it a huge pain to use, and now I have to get another. I would give it 5 stars otherwise.
Recieved in good shape, looks like new. The unit I got is labled on drill body as "5380-21", The front case is black rather than aluminum color as pictured.
